Monashee Area is organizing some summer camps.

All girl and adult members of Girl Guides of Canada are welcome and encouraged to apply!

July 22 to 24, 2009

Camp Bonnett, near Greenwood, BC on Jewel Lake

This is an opportunity for girls aged 7 to 8 to come individually or with a guiding friend to join a group of girls ages 9 & up at a Girl Guide camp on Jewel Lake for the last 2 days of the Area Summer Camp.  Girls will have fun exploring the outdoors, swimming, canoeing, participating in singing & drama, making crafts and learning camp skills. Participants will have an opportunity to meet girls from throughout Monashee Area and share in the fun and fellowship of camping at Camp Bonnett.

Camp Bonnett is a wilderness campsite with no running water or flush toilets. All camping will be done in tents with cooking outdoors.
A bus will be available to take the girls to & from the camp.  Greenwood, BC is a 2 hour drive south of Kelowna.

There is a limited number of spots available so applications will be processed on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS.

This is an opportunity for girls ages 9 to 18 to come individually or with a guiding friend to the Monashee Area Summer Camp.  Lots of opportunity to learn camping skills... live & play in the outdoors... and work toward the BC Girl Guides Summer Camping challenge.  Along with the program we plan to offer swimming and canoeing in Jewel Lake, mountain biking, fishing, geocaching, drama, crafts, service work and a mystery day trip. Participants will have an opportunity to meet girls from throughout Monashee Area and share in the fun and fellowship of camping at Camp Bonnett.

Bussing is provided at no extra charge, from key departure points. Greenwood, BC is a 2 hour drive south of Kelowna.

Glitter on the Go (Bike Trek)

Camp Bonnett, near Greenwood, BC to Penticton, BC

This is an opportunity for 3rd year Pathfinders, Trex, Rangers and Lones (girls who will finish grade 9 this year, and older) to participate in a 5 day, 250 km mountain bike trek along Kettle Valley Railway from Greenwood (Camp Bonnett) to Penticton, BC.  You will pedal 50 Km a day along the railroad bed consisting of various terrain and camp along the way in wilderness campsites.  This is a supported trip so all camping gear will be hauled via vehicle to each camping location but you will be required to carry some personal gear in a backpack.
Start out with 3 days at the Area “All The Glitters” summer camp, Camp Bonnet, preparing for the trek, July 19 to 21.  Bike Trek begins July 22nd ending in Penticton on July 26/09. Camp Bonnett is a wilderness campsite with no running water or flush toilets. All camping onsite and on the Trek will be done in tents with cooking outdoors.
Mountain bikes will be provided.  If you wish to bring your own you are required to have it serviced and provide certification of service prior to coming to camp .
Parents are more than welcome to come see Camp Bonnett at Jewel Lake and our starting point for the biking by dropping the participant off between 2 and 3 pm Sunday, July 19.  Bussing is available (at no additional cost) for transportation to the camp.  At the end of the bike trek, PARENTS will be responsible for pick up in Penticton.

As there will be only 10 spots for girls, applications will be reviewed to ensure requirements for this trek are met, then names will be drawn on a lottery basis.

Core Staff & Patrol Guiders

This is an opportunity for adults to come camping this summer. Have fun exploring the outdoors, swimming and canoeing in Jewel Lake, mountain biking, fishing, geocaching, drama, making crafts, service work and a mystery day trip. Participants will have an opportunity to meet girls & guiders from throughout Monashee & surrounding Areas and share in the fun and fellowship of camping at Camp Bonnett.

Volunteers required to fill the roles of Core Staff, Patrol Guiders, NLS Certified Lifeguard and Certified Canoe Instructor ~ please complete Core Staff/Patrol Guider Application form if you are qualified to help.  Come for the week or a few days – whatever works for you.  We are also looking for a limited number of Guiders to supervise the busses to & from the camp (please indicate on the application if you would be interested in this).

Travel is the responsibility of each participant. Greenwood, BC is a 2 hour drive south of Kelowna. Directions to be forwarded with registration confirmation.
